CHARACTER INFORMATION

Name: Gi-ne

Gi-ne was featured in a short story called Dragonball Minus originally published in Shounen Jump as a stand alone. Since then it’s been published in Jaco The Galactic Patrolman, a short series done by Akira Toriyama set during the same time period. Gi-ne is actually long dead by the beginning of Dragonball. She is Raditz and Goku’s mother who died when Frieza destroyed Planet Vegeta. She’s a saiyan, a race known for brutality and violence.

Personality/Background:

Gi-ne is a bit of an oddball for a saiyan. She did help purge planets but hated it because she doesn’t like killing. She’s considered very soft-hearted by saiyan standards, a flaw beyond forgiveness. Because of this, while fighting off world, she apparently had to be saved by Bardock a number of times. And so they fell in love! Gi-ne and Bardock are a rare case of saiyans forming a committed, romantic relationship and are very fond of each other even years later.

Gi-ne ended up retiring from being a soldier and instead worked on planet Vegeta in the meat dispensary. Probably a better fit. Though she loves fighting as much as the next saiyan, Gi-ne is very attached to her family and is considered very kind-hearted and affectionate.



Moral Alignment:
Gi-ne is about as much of a good person as she can be and does not like killing people. However, because of saiyan culture, she considers this a flaw in her character and she has killed plenty of people before. It’s just a matter of gritting her teeth and bearing it. She’ll comfortably kill in self-defence or defence of someone she likes. Her sons and Bardock are all very important to her and she’d kill for them, as well as the safety of the saiyan race in general. She currently has reason to believe they’re in great danger, for the record, so she’ll jump at the mention of that.
